CENSOR THIS! (19 May 2021)

A ways back I was kindly asked to come onboard as Exec Producer on a project called CENSOR by Helen Jones of Silver Salt films UK. She was producing a new film by debut filmmaker Prano Bailey Bond – who had written a knockout script with her writing partner Anthony. After its brilliant Sundance debut the film has picked up a lot of steam and today the trailer and post landed.

“Censor” stars Niamh Algar as the censor of the title, Enid, and was directed by Prano Bailey-Bond in her feature debut (she also wrote the film alongside Anthony Fletcher). The film debuted at this year’s Sundance Film Festival, where IndieWire’s Eric Kohn called it “a disturbing debut” steeped in ’80s horror.

In his review, Kohn wrote: “The movie unfolds with elegant atmospheric dread, as Enid contends with a brutal, male-dominated work environment in which her opinions rarely hold weight. When a lunatic murders his family in a manner based off one of the movies she was forced with cutting down, the world turns against her. … That’s when she sees a particularly unnerving exploitation movie called ‘Don’t Go in the Church,’ with an opening slasher bit featuring an actress that bears an unmistakable resemblance to Enid’s missing sibling. At least, that’s what Enid thinks, as she journeys down a rabbit hole of theories and detective work that may or may not hold together.”

Magnet Releasing will release “Censor” in theaters on June 11, with a VOD rollout to follow on June 18.

The Salamander Lives Twice (16 Mar 2021)

Adrien Brody and Vera Farmiga are starring in the independent mystery thriller “The Salamander Lives Twice” with production scheduled to begin in the spring.

Brody will portray a man with an impenetrable briefcase and no memory who is found on the shoreline of a remote island by a woman and her daughter — played by Farmiga — who are the last remaining members of a once prosperous family dynasty.

Ant Timpson is directing “The Salamander Lives Twice” from a Toby Harvard script, with a story by Timpson and Harvard. The film is produced by Emma Slade for Firefly Films, Katie Holly for Blinder Films and is executive produced by Timpson and XYZ Films, which is handling worldwide sales. “The Salamander Lives Twice” will be introduced by XYZ to buyers, with CAA Media Finance co-repping domestic rights, at the online American Film Market, which opens Monday.

The Very Long, Dark and Strange Journey to Directing My First Feature (11 May 2019)

I wrote a piece for TALKHOUSE about the making of my film COME TO DADDY.

I was a movie nut from as far back as I can remember. I recall not only the titles but also the cinemas they played at throughout my childhood. Sure, most film fans remember when they first saw Star Wars – but do they know the session time and cinema they first encountered The Neptune Factor? Or when and where they dropped their choc-top during Watch Out, We’re Mad?
